Purpose of Y-Adventure Guides
Time is short and kids grow up so soon. Finding quality time with our children, especially when so much time is spent working and commuting, can be a problem. And often when a parent and child do have time together, they don’t always know how to use that time to its fullest potential. Y-Adventure Guides is designed for a parent and his or her Kindergarten through 4 th grade child. In Y-Adventure Guides, the focus is on the parent’s role as a guide in the child’s life. Parents lead, direct, supervise, influence and teach while presenting opportunities for children to explore the world around them. Parents lead by example as they set their children on a path through life, all while developing a positive and lifelong relationship.
Program Structure
In Y-Adventure Guides the journey happens within the context of a small Circle community. The Circle is the program’s basic unite, providing a structure, a sense of community, and support for all activities. Adventure Guides (parents) and Explorers (children) meet in Circles once or twice each month. Circles join together to form the Expedition that facilitates the exchange of ideas and planning of periodic events such as field trips, Pine Block Derby, Turkey Shoot, fishing trips, and camp-outs throughout the year. Time Required
The parents in the Circle largely determine the basic time commitment. There is usually one Circle meeting per month and one additional Circle activity each month. There are approximately six Expedition events during the year, but attendance at these events are left to the discretion of the individual parents.
How to Join
To join Y-Adventure Guides, simply complete the registration form and return it to the YMCA at 6135 Tam O' Shanter Dr. Stockton, CA 95210. For Additional information call us at (209)472-9622. Your Guide and Explorer (parent and child) will be invited to join an existing Circle or be assigned to a new Circle.
Program Fees and Method of Payment
The annual fee for a parent-child pair is $170. This fee covers program materials, t-shirts, and patches. Special Expedition events (camp-outs, field trips) have their own additional fees. Additional siblings (in either the same or different Circles) are an additional $70 each. To register you can choose among a couple of options. Online registration deadline is June 1, 2010.
